John / all, I was able to fix things (with the help of IT support for work) by uninstalling the current build -> rebooting the work PC -> renaming the original profiles folders -> installing an earlier build of MapInfo v23.2. MapInfo is now running OK, so the issue may have been with the profiles?? ...

In the last week, MapInfo 23.2 has stopped loading fully on my workccomputer, it gets as far as the screen reading "welcome to MapInfo pro" then drops out. The comment about MIF/MID files is interesting because the asset management data in the tables mentioned is imported into MapInfo from MIF/MID files. Because the table for the census data that I was using was based on Lat/Long (being Australia-wide), see the bottom of the screen dump below, I had missed / overlooked the fact that the tables for the text and boxes etc was on MGA instead.
