When working with Automate Studio, it's important to identify the SAP application type before recording a script. Selecting the wrong module can cause recording failures or prevent a script from being generated.
Method 1: Check the "About" Information
- Open the SAP application (tile).
- Click your initials/profile icon in the upper-right corner.
- Select About.
- Review the Framework ID under the Application section.
What to look for:
- UI5 = This is a Fiori app. Use the Fiori module in Automate Studio.
- GUI = This is a GUI for HTML app. Use the GUI for HTML module in Automate Studio.
Selecting the incorrect module will result in recording errors.

Method 2: Use the SAP Fiori Apps Reference Library
The SAP Fiori Apps Reference Library provides details about SAP applications, including the underlying technology and application type. This can help determine whether the app should be automated using the Fiori or GUI for HTML module.
Important: Supported Application Types
Automate Studio currently supports recording the following SAP application types:
- SAP Fiori (UI5)
- SAP GUI for HTML
Web Dynpro ABAP (WDA) applications are not supported for Fiori recording. Attempting to record WDA or other unsupported application types may result in recording failures and no script being generated.
Additional Tips
- The Fiori module in Automate Studio supports Transactional Apps only.
- If the Fiori module is greyed out, you likely need a Studio Pro license to create Fiori scripts.
- This licensing requirement applies only to script developers. Users running scripts through Runner do not require a Studio Pro license, provided they have the necessary SAP authorizations.
