    Dears,

is there a way to import OSM buildings maps as the one shown below to mapinfo

it will be very helpful for visualization and identify highly dense populated areas, etc

Are you looking for a specific country or worldwide?

Would a raster dataset work, such as one of the Precisely Maps that come out of the box with MapInfo Pro?

There are sites out there where you can download vector versions of the OSM data too

    Hi Peter,

it is for different work requirements, so the best solution is to be able to have this kind of map for any location.

which sites can allow to download Vector OSM data? Can it be for OSM Buildings? and after download it how to use it in mapinfo to give same visual view as in

    Thank you

    Hi

You can download OSM data from various places. I typically use Geofabric, which allows me to download data in Shape files and split by feature type.

This is a direct link to the Geofabric Download Server: download.geofabrik.de/

The data is split by continent and then by country, region, etc.

Depending on the size of the country, you may have to download the data in smaller pieces.

I tried downloading the data for Denmark and loading it into MapInfo Pro.

Looking at the attribute, this data doesn't seem to hold height information. Not sure if that's specifically to Denmark or the Geofabrik data in general.

    Thanks Peter,

is very helpful. I checked for other countries, height information is not included in the shape files downloaded from GeoFabric.

any idea how to get Height information?

Maybe the Height information comes with the full OSM data?

You could try loading the OSM data into say PostgreSQL/PostGIS. You can find various tutorials on doing this on the web: Loading OSM data into PostGIS

The link above is a Google Search result page.

This isn't something I have tried so I won't be able to assist much here.

Maybe there is someone else on the line with this type of experience?

If you get the height information into MapInfo Pro, we can visualize the buildings as you showed. Below is an example where the buildings are shown in the new 3D map in MapInfo Pro v2023

Full OSM data contains height information for a few buildings, but not so many.
    # of levels is more common and can be a good proxy for height. I think osmbuilding use it. Zoom very close and you can count the windows.

Stay away from SHP files (too processed), only use the full OSM download from geofabrik.

I have attached the buildings dataset that I used.

I don't have height as a single column, but you can calculate it by subtracting the value in the Mølby_DTM_Min from the value in the column Mølby_DSM_Max.

I use this building dataset in the MapInfo Pro v2023 Release Webinar.

You can also use other attributes for your height and so use it as a thematic map.

You can find more details about 3D visualization in MapInfo Pro and improvements to MapInfo Pro v2023 in general in this article: MapInfo Monday: MapInfo Pro v2023.
