Thanks for this Peter and thanks to all who have provided feedback! We've made some additional improvements for version 2019.1 based on feedback we received near the end of the 2019 release (but too late to make it into 2019) so I wanted to let you know what's coming - hopefully these improvements ...

Hi James & Peter, When spherical is selected you'll notice in the MapBasic window that we actually use the ObjectDistance() function instead of SphericalObjectDistance().  The advantage of using ObjectDistance() is that it already has the support to determine whether it should use a Spherical or Cartesian ...

One thing that might help is to find a font with no descenders or short descenders. Descenders are that part of the font that draws below the baseline like the letter 'g'. One is MS Gothic. Not sure how nice of a map font it is but maybe you could find something nicer. ------------------------------ ...

Hi Martin, What font and font attributes are you using (size, styles, etc.)?  Multi-line labels are drawn with single line spacing which depends on the font's leading, ascent and descent values. We get those values directly from Windows font API and they depend on the font and font size/styles you are ...

As Peter pointed out, all legends are now vectorised and therefore they look crisper.  This means legend output is no longer rasterized and PDF output will look much better with version 2019.  Bitmap pattern fills and custom symbols are still drawn as raster, but True Type Font symbols, all line styles, ...

Hi Peter, Jane, I want to clarify something Peter mentioned above: When I created the example above, I also was wondering why the labels for my legend swatches didn't match the text I specified in the statement. It turned out that MapInfo Pro doesn't currently allow you to specify an expression for ...

HI Bo, Thanks for the zip file. On my Windows 10 machine and using 17.0.3 it prints to PDF correctly - I see all the text. The fact that you can export the map to an image and see your labels tells me that Pro is probably not the problem.  Also, curved labels are rendered differently (as glyphs) ...

Hi Bo, We need to see if we can find out what's different on the machines where the output works. Can you check to see if you have different Output settings setup? Compare your Output Preferences (for 17.0.3 it's on the Backstage > Options > Output Settings) between a machine that works and one that ...

Hi Mike, Thanks for the info. Does this happen when you print to the Microsoft PDF printer? I can't reproduce the problem you're seeing based on what you've provided so far. Can you package up your data and attach here or send to me directly? (You can use the Workspace Packager tool to copy all the ...

Hi Andy, The legends, and most of the content (exception is map) in the Layout is drawn using WPF. You've run into one thing we dislike about WPF; retained mode rendering. It has its advantages and disadvantages. The disadvantage is that immediately after controls are created they may not yet be measured ...

Hi Andy, I'm sorry - that was my copy/paste error. I should have written something like this:   ... Frame From Layer 1 into ID 16 Frame From Layer 3 Into ID 17, ... etc. so you are correct - it is not possible to insert multiple legends into a single frame. Sorry for the confusion. I think the right ...

Hi Andy, I apologize for such a delay in responding to your post, but I've been out of the office on vacation. You are right that each legend has its own frame, so to insert legends into empty frames in a layout template you need to append the "Into ID x" clause for each Frame from Layer clause: ...

Thanks for pointing this out Peter. I've actually been able to reproduce JIRA MCS-6192 using the simple data set attached by Tech Support, so I'll update it accordingly.  Perhaps we can use this data set to help Stefan. ------------------------------ Michele Buselli PITNEY BOWES SOFTWARE, INC ...

Hi Stefan, I saw your post yesterday and tried unsuccessfully to reproduce it. Has anyone from tech support reached out to you yet?  I thought they were going to but I will forward your post to them; I'd like to get more details and possibly some data to understand the issue you're having. -Michele ...

For a while, both the 32-bit and 64-bit Layouts co-existed; the reason commands like this one are still in the Help. We do have a back log item to review and update the documentation and it includes Create Frame.  It is MIPRO-97803 if you want to track it. ------------------------------ Michele Buselli ...

There is also a "Zoom to 100%" on the Layout window's right click menu. That is the same as the 32 bit View Actual Size. ------------------------------ Michele Buselli PITNEY BOWES SOFTWARE, INC ------------------------------
