Nice article Briana. The power location information provides in these situations is incredible. We are seeing some trends in Australia that may change the way we search for properties. At the moment it is all about price, number of bedrooms, type of property etc etc. The trend is moving toward asking ...

Hi Amy The parsing outlined is further than what is used in Australia, however the purpose of accurate parsing is probably similar. I am far from an expert in the area, but I suspect the use case is around accuracy of matching. A well parsed address works far better in most address verification tools ...

Exciting changes Dan. I look forward to what this means in terms of increased global coverage, product consistency and update frequency. I was already seeing elements of this across the Asian region in 2019, I look forward to what the Smart Data Platform enables in 2020. ------------------------------ ...

Hi Dan Your list of Pros and Cons is pretty good. The other Con may be additional data storage, often zipped files, then installer and then the loaded data - but data storage isn't generally much of an issue. In my experience the loaders don't add considerable additional benefit for most users, however ...

I agree Andy, POI data is fantastic and has many uses. It is amazing how much we use this type of data in everyday life, however I don't think I am the only one that has found some issues with arguably the largest consumer facing service provider of it.  https://www.wsj.com/articles/google-maps-lit ...

New Zealand does its best to break data field parameters, particularly Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu.  The meaning of the name has been translated to mean "the place where Tamatea, the man who had big knees, the climber of mountains, the slider, ...

Great article Tom! When dealing with extracted data from imagery, devices etc and then aligning this with existing datasets it is incredibly hard to achieve spatial coherence - particularly when you can't move the spatial object you know is in the wrong place (such as legal parcel boundaries). I've ...

Hi James, I have done a bit of work on Tableau with data. I generally look to flatten data as best possible and use clear field name conventions. However the critical part has always been having IDs in the data that allow you to easy link with other data. Address, locality, post/zip code are great - ...

Great question Keith, it is cool to see some of the things people like most. For me it is the roads data. The immediate practicality of use and how visually pleasing a well themed road network looks puts it to the top of my list. ------------------------------ Gerry Stanley Pitney Bowes Australia ...

Three great steps Tom. My general approach when I get my hands on some new data is probably a bit more like a kid in a candy store: My steps are closer to: 1. open the data in the relevant software package 2. load some other data in with it for background context - such as an imagery, administrative ...

Good information on the US approach John. In Australia the Government Schools have very defined boundaries that are sometime difficult to access, however the selection of students is very similar - if a student is in the catchment they have to take them, if outside the boundary students apply. We also ...

Whilst I don't exactly get time to play with data enough, something of a focus recently new has been working with partners to develop clutter for a 5G rollout proposal. What was most exciting is that the clutter data was created from Australian built environment and surface cover data - this is a step ...

I have your attention now don't I! No, this isn't where I stop talking about craft beer. It is in fact when I start talking about it. The Queensland Government in Australia has a dedicated strategy for increasing the number of craft breweries. The strategy document is actually a really good read, ...
