Meta-model Design

Configure a relationship type where the object and subject are identical.

• We want to document the relationship between two assets from the identical asset type Business Asset: Business Glossary.

  • Customer is characterized by First Name

  • First Name is a characteristic of Customer

• Configuration:

  • We create a Relationship Type as such:

    • Object: Business Asset : Business Glossary

    • Predicate: is characterized by / is a characteristic of (Simple)

    • Subject: Business Asset : Business Glossary

    • Subject Cardinality: Many

    • Object Cardinality: Many

  • Business Asset : Business Glossary

    • has a display format {Name}

    • has a field with type Relationship using the Relationship Type
      is a characteristic of Business Glossary
      -> Allows to build the relationship upon asset creation.

    • has a field with type Relationship Lookup using the Relationship Type
      is a characteristic of Business Glossary or is characterized by Business Glossary (<->)
      -> Show the related Business Glossary assets upon browsing in the information pane or the detail tile.

      • Show these fields in this column and sort order:

        • DataDomain

        • Name

        • BusinessGlossaryType

Operations Mode

• Create Business Glossary artifacts:

  • Customer

    • Data Domain: Marketing

    • Business Glossary Type: Concept

  • First Name

    • Data Domain: Marketing

    • Business Glossary Type: Term

    • Related Concepts: Customer.

The Result

Despite having configured the Relationship Type as
is a characteristic of Business Glossary or is characterized by Business Glossary (<->)
for the Relationship Lookup field, it doesn't retrieve all the relationships.

It seems to only look in one direction:

• The Customer asset shows the related First Name in the relationship lookup field.

• The First Name asset does not show the related Customer in the relationship lookup field.

Request

• The Relationship Lookup field should display all related artifacts, independent of the relationship direction (left versus right), when the relationship type is selected in both directions.
