Dear Peter
I reconstruct historical land ownership in 1400 and coloring parcels is an essential tool in that process. There are about 250 owners, so I can give every owns his own color.
Parcels are being colored bij selecting the parcels owned by, for example, a certain monastery and via "style" select the color assigned to that monastery and update the color of any newly reconstructed ownership. That works fine. I also use thematic maps to visualize other data or properties pertaining to these parcels, like size, taxation, type of property etc
The currently availability of only 16 colors for thematic maps is a step backwards from the granularity provided by the above process, also in selecting colors for thematic maps, MIP often colors adjacent parcels with the same color.
Having all 256 colors available for thematic map would be a major step forward in presenting the results of my research as well as for helping in the reconstruction process. The difference between these colors generally is adequate.
The currently available maximum number of 1896 individual values MIP can handle, sometimes is a bottleneck, but can be handled through a workaround.
Hope this helps,

Hi Ad
I assume you are using an individual theme, right?
Typically, I would have thought our templates would have a limited number of colors that just would get repeated if the table holds more unique values.
Often it would be hard to see the difference between the colors if you have too many.
Is it all these colors you were looking to use?

For my research I use pretty much all colors available in MIP.
In thematic maps only 16 are available.
In one of the earlier MIP versions the option to use all 256 colors in thematic maps.has existed.
Any chance of restoring that option?
