We are currently on Automate Studio v20, which is an old, unsupported version of the product. Why? Because our company is using SAP gui 750 (I have patch level 4 on my laptop), and there aren't any plans to upgrade our SAP gui any time in the near future (not something I have any control over).
We were told a while back that it would be "ill advised" to upgrade to a newer version of Studio unless we wind up upgrading our SAP gui version. More recently, I was involved in a conversation that indicated it was possible to upgrade to the latest version of Studio (v25) and it would work with our old SAP guil (750)...I am trying to figure out what is "reality" here.
Are there any customers out there that are in a similar situation (old version SAP gui, newer version Studio product), and if so, can you share your experiences.
We have nearly 200 transaction scripts, and approximately 60 or so web services (SAP data API)... only one transaction script that is "gui scripting" (fairly certain this script will cease to work were we to upgrade to a newer version of Studio).
Additionally, I'm curious regarding the upgrade experiences to newer versions of the Studio (& Studio Manager) product over the past few years. When we upgraded to v20, there were a number of bugs in the product that I reported via support tickets, but we were unable to get any patches to resolve the issues, were told we'd have to wait/upgrade to a newer version of the product to get the "fixes" we were reporting with our brand new installation of the software. Once again, due to our old SAP gui, the "upgrade to a new version with the fixes" suggestion wasn't an option for us, so we've been dealing with the bugs (and in some cases, had to go through some major application redesigns to accommodate the bugs)... skimming through some of the conversations in this forum, sounds like there are still issues with folks wanting to upgrade to a newer version of the product to "get away from bugs" in their current version.
I appreciate any thoughts or feedback on these matters, thanks in advance.
