  • 1.  Discrepancy between Google and Mapinfo Pro

    Hi,

    For the address Hood St, St Lucia, the postcode is 4067 on Google and 4072 on MapInfo.

    So which one is correct? And why it's different?

    Hi Jason

    We may need a bit more information. I figured out that we are talking about Australia, right?

    What tool in MapInfo Pro do you use to search for the address? Move Map To or Find Address?

    I did a quick search on Google too and found:

     

    Via our address API which is used through the Find Address in MapInfo Pro, I seem to find the same address

    And when I tried to locate the address through Move Map in MapInfo Pro, I also found a matching address
    Please share a bit more details on how you search for the address

    Thank you for your reply. I should have provided the full address to you. 

    Can you have a look at this address: 9 Hood St, St Lucia

    On Google, it shows 4067

    We use Find Address in MapInfo Pro to search for the address.

    Australian Universities, at least large/old ones, have their own postcodes, But lie within the boundaries of the suburb. You can use either the specific university one or the suburb one.

    Either works fine.

    Hello Jason, you see this type of behaviour when a suburb spans more than 1 postcode boundary. It is not very common for a suburb to span more than one postcode - St Lucia is one of those - because as Josh said, the university has its own postcode - and 9 Hood St on the grounds of the university. I've attached an image below showing the location of the address in relation to gazetted postcode and suburb boundaries.

    Is there anyway we can overwrite it to 4067? Because most of our customers put 4067 instead of 4072..

    Hi Jason, we only provide the gazetted postcode but you can overwrite it on your end.
