According to IT, there is a file server write stability issue, to do with SMTP/SMD protocol.

Hi Peter and thanks to others as well.
The files are not new files, just updated annually.
Yes they are on a networked drive for access by 4 other PC's.
I will get that drive exempted from some anti-virus rules and see if we can make a difference that way.
Will let you know.
Thanks again

Do you by any chance have your tables stored in Dropbox, OneDrive, or another data synchronization tool?
I find that these tools often lock new files, preventing MapInfo Pro from editing them, writing to them, and even sometimes from opening them.
I should also note that we have seen customers struggling when files are stored on network drives where the organisation's anti-virus locks files.

Hi does anyone have issues packing tables? We often have the program crash totally and the file is renamed, often into a .tmp file rather than .tab.
This is one of the few times I actually got a clear error message, usually it is far more abstract or non-existent.
We are at the point of not packing most tables because of the downtime to reboot and find/rename the crashed file.
