I prefer using a dark base when mapping, it creates a striking effect where the road networks stand out. Australia's capital cities are lit up as if it were night time.

It's quite a contrast comparing Melbourne to Hobart (attached below).

In Melbourne there are many more Freeways and Highways in white/light pink colours. And for that reason Hobart looks a lot cleaner and nicer in print (my opinion anyway!)See AttachmentSee AttachmentSee Attachment
