    I think everyone needs to understand that GIS is a tool; a software solution. It's not an industry; it may be a technology sector, but it has been problematic to define because it is a broad technology that encompasses many facets of using digital map data, other locadtion-based data and software to support its analysis.

    Well it is also a subject taught (and qualifications) in schools and colleges around the world. It would be difficult to change?.

    Agree. I like either Location Intelligence or Location Science that encompasses everything including 'geo'.
