  • 1.  Using Tableau for Data Reporting

    When trying to use the URL of a REST API (for example http://<LMS Host>:8080/dwapi/v1/processes/getcount), generated by the Data Reporting Warehouse from Foundation in Tableau, I get the following error message: The URL points to a website, not a web data connector - a web page with code to get data from a website.

    Does anybody know how to set this up properly? The Tableau website isn't much help in this instance.

    That call is correct.  I always test mine in Postman.  And internally we use Power BI, so I can't comment on what Tableau needs to make the call work.. 

    I did a little searching and found this post:

    It suggests you may need to use/create a web data connector.   It shows a link here:  https://help.tableau.com/current/pro/desktop/en-us/examples_web_data_connector.htm

    I'm not sure this is helpful or not, but I hope it is.  If anyone else is using Tableau with the Reporting API, please jump in.

    Hi All

    The above reply does not refer to a report, per se.  It refers to using an API testing tool to try the API calls.  You can use whatever you like.  I tried Postman (which our engineering team used), which can be downloaded here:  https://www.getpostman.com/downloads/


    You have to make sure you use NTLM authentication to gain access to the Foundation site.

    Choose NTLM authentication, enter your user name, password and domain.  If you create a collection and specify it at the collection level, it will apply to all of the calls you put in that collection.
