  • 1.  Data Template overwritten in Foundation

    Hello everyone,

    We're facing the following issue:

Somehow, a user managed to create a new version of one of our published data template in Foundation.
Now, whenever opening the original version (either locally or from Foundation) we're getting the following error:
"the template version is not the same as the one on the server..."  (same message occurs when opening the user's version ...strange).

Anyway, we try the "restore" option which does restore the original version, but ...same message occurs :/

    1) We're wondering how it is possible for a user (runner) who only has reading permissions to create a new version of a published data template in Foundation ?

    2) We're not seeing a "delete" option for the latest versions generated, but only for the original one. So is the only solution to delete everything and republish, or is there a better way ?

NB: I understand there is a Foundation option to verify the template version, that can be unchecked, but we would like to keep this security.

If anyone has already faced this problem and is willing to help us that would be great :)

    Thank you so much !

    Hi Guillaume,

Unfortunately, most of the groups associated with Foundation roles grant the ability to add items to libraries. Since you can't submit to Foundation without including the data template, increasing both versions, I believe your options are:

    1. Use PowerShell to delete the version and bring both files into alignment.
    2. Delete both the script and data template and resubmit, starting over from version 1.

    Hello Guillaume!

We are having a similar problem, but a little different.  Users are accidentally updating the templates when they are running files and not aware they are doing it, but we do not get the "template version" error.  It is causing us headaches for other various reasons.  We are able to Check Out and Restore a previous version to "fix" the files.

The root cause we can figure out is the version of Studio, 11.2.12, is allowing this.  If you look at the Permissions of a template file, it is somehow giving contribute access to individuals.  We also have SharePoint 2016 and O365 (Excel Version 1908 (16.0.11929.20384), so we are not fully sure if it is a combo of Studio and Excel, but it is automatically updating the template version based on the file they are running.  We are testing a fix by getting version 11.2.18 on user machines, which seems to be stopping this behavior.

I hope this helps in some way.  Let me know if you need more details.
