  • 1.  Excel Add In

    Posted 11-21-2018 01:58
    Hi,

We recently made the switch to Office 365. When we made the switch, I did a complete reinstallation of WinShuttle and everything worked fine.

Now we are getting updates on a much more frequent basis and I noticed the WinShuttle add-in disappeared from my Excel. Probably with one of the latest updates.

The WinShuttle add-in is also not available in the Excel options  in the Excel Add Ins. I can't just go and activate it again.

My question: Is there a way to get the add-in back without doing a complete reinstallation of WinShuttle?

Alternatively, how can I manage scripts published to an Excel file without the add-in?

    Hi Michael

Are you able to switch it back on within excel?

Goto "File" then "Options", click on "Add-ins" then Manage "COM Add-ins" then enter a tick against "TRANSACTION"?

I have the same problem on one of the PC's where I have to do this every time. So, I have enabled the Developer Tab on Excel so that it can be accessed easier. (COM Add-ins appears in this tab)

    Kind regards,

    Hi everyone,

I'm sorry to say that I have the same problem.

When it occurs, I do exactly as explained by Martin in his reply (in .com addin NOT in excel addin)

In Winhuttle 11.2: the addins are
    WinshuttleStudioAddin
    WinshuttleStudioMacros

After doing this, you have to quit Excel, and then reopen it and go back again to the .com addins to check if it's still OK.
Sometimes it is (the add in is still enabled), but sometimes it's not (the check has gone). And If you re-enable it, it will disable again...

In this case, the only solution I have found is to reinstall Winshuttle.

I don't think you can manage a script in Excel wihout the addin. you can only manage and use it in studio.

    Hi,
Thanks for the input. My problem is that the add-in disappeared from the options menu. I cannot activate it again under Options --> Add-ins --> COM addins.

I was wondering if there was an easier way to get the add-in back instead of reinstalling WinShuttle completely.

But I guess I have no choice :/

I usually don't use it. I run my scripts directly from Studio. But I have created a few Excel files with published scripts in them for other people in the company (They only have a runner license). I think the only way of changing(deleting) the published scripts in those Excel files is through Excel.  Thus the need for the add-in ;)

Hi Michael - have you opened a support ticket on the add-in issue?  They should be able to help.  Also, if you're on v11, you can request a utility from Support which may help.  It must be run in administrator mode to load/unload and/or register/unregister the add-in.  I've found since moving to v11 that I have less issues with the add-in, but sometimes I've had to use the utility.

    Best Regards,
    Sigrid

    Hi Michael!

We have a Support help article published for the Winshuttle add in not appearing. It can be found here:  Winshuttle Excel Add-in is not appearing

The article specifically outlines how to use the "add" button under the COM add ins to locate the adxloader.dll where you can manually add Winshuttle back to the list of COM add ins:

    Excel 2010 / Excel 2013  /Excel 2016

    1. Start Excel.
    2. Go to File > Options > Add-Ins.
    3. In the Manage drop-down list, click COM Add-Ins and click Go.
    4. Select the Transaction and/or Query Add-in (for 10.X) or WinshuttleStudioAddin and WinshuttleStudioMacros (for 11.X) check box to enable the Add-in.
    5. If you do not see the Transaction, Query, WinshuttleStudioAddin or WinshuttleStudioMacros Add-in: Click Add, and then browse to the following path: C:\Program Files\Winshuttle\*Application* (for 64-bit) or C:\Program Files (x86)\Winshuttle\*Application* (for 32-bit). Choose ADXLOADER.dll, where *Application* is Transaction, Query or Studio.

If you continue to see issues, please log a support ticket and we would be happy to help.

    Thank you!

    Hi all,

thank you for all the support. The link to the WinShuttle support page was very helpful.

It turns out that there was some sort of error with the Excel add-in. I checked the data settings options in WinShuttle directly to enable the add-in there. It stated that the add-in was not properly installed. So I had to do a re-installation. But I will definitely keep the link in mind next time.

    Hello Winshuttle Community,
One of my team members cannot add the excel add-in (we are trying to follow instructions in the article "Winshuttle Excel Add-in is not appearing", we chose the adxloader.dll file from Program files folder but it doesn't work.

We get a new message (attached screenshot):

Load Behavior: Not loaded. A runtime error ocurred during the loading of the COM Add-in.

I will raise a ticket for support. Thanks for sharing,
