  • 1.  RPA / SAP / LICENSE

    Hello,

I'd like to open a discussion about RPA <> Winshuttle licenses.

Technically, a Winshuttle license is assign to a person.
But the other way, often when you program a RPA process in SAP you are using a technical user.

My consideration is the following : when you work in a big company using different SAP systems, the deployment of a RPA process is no easy as often SAP systems are not so homogeneous (different screen, different behavior, etc...).

Winshuttle promote RPA and therefore, I see only avantages to integrate Winshuttle execution into RPA step. Activities out of SAP are the same (I collect the same data at the same place). Then easy to create specific script in Shuttle for each scenario and each SAP system. The role of the RPA will be to prepare the data file and select the correct script based on event driven.

Then can it be reasonable to have a kind of RPA licenses for Winshuttle that will be assigned to a technical user ?

What do you think ? Do you see interest to integrate Winshuttle into a step of RPA ? Do you already experiment yourself ? And if yes, what is the outcome ?

    Best Regards,

Your post about RPA with Winshuttle is timely.  We are in the process of testing out a possible pricing model that supports RPA integration with Winshuttle for Financial Accounting use cases.  Our intent is to fine-tune this new pricing model with Financial Account related T-codes first before considering it for other use cases.

If this interests people who aren't currently using Winshuttle for their Financial Accounting use cases but are looking to use RPA for Financial Accounting, then they can respond to this thread and we will get you in touch with our product management team member who is trialing this RPA for Winshuttle pricing model for Financial Accounting use cases.

Lastly, I'll have another RPA licensing clarification with Winshuttle products that I'll be sharing later this month so stay tuned!

    Hello

We alreday have an RPA process installed when we request a new vendor in SAP and our RPA´s have all a licence and SAP-login dependent on what process we run and it works fine.
So each RPA has a designated task if you will.
The robot will collect data from external process, collect the data and compare to exsisting parameters in SAP.
Afterwards in the outcome, data is populated on a winshuttle-form and that is the starting phase for the Winshuttle and then the manual governance-process starts.

Here is the follow on clarification that I was referring to in my prior post.

For customers using Studio with Connect, we have recently updated the licensing management information that appears when you click the gold circled EULA link at the bottom of the Connect website page.
    Connect website link to EULA
The popup text now clarifies that:
"The Winshuttle licensing compliance guidelines include the following provision for the use of Robotic Process Automation (RPA "bots"):

Robotic Process Automation (RPA "bots") may only be used with licenses ordered via the purchase of a Winshuttle license which is intended to cover the use of computer software programs. Currently, customers wanting to use RPA bots with Winshuttle software must purchase from our existing named user licensing models where each licensed SAP user also has a licensed Winshuttle end user. 'Kiosking,' the practice in which multiple individuals use the same bot or named user license, is not allowed. Bots can run on behalf of a single user only; thus, you need a single named user license for each bot that, for the purpose of licensing, 'acts' as the Winshuttle user."

For customers using Foundation or Studio with User Governance, you will see similar updated text in the license administration area of those products with our upcoming 12.1 release.

Note our recent Blue Prism partnership announcement regarding how to leverage their RPA bots with Winshuttle products for the best end to end solution for when you need a RPA bot to fetch information and then pass it into your Studio scripts for data automation with your SAP system.

Based on customer interest in using their RPA bots with the Winshuttle Studio product, we've developed a new kind of Studio license intended for RPA bot usage to make it easier for customers and Winshuttle to identify and track named user licenses for humans and the new Studio RPA Runner license for RPA bot usage of Studio.  RPA bot usage of Winshuttle desktop products requires the purchase of this new Studio RPA Runner license.  This additional kind of license doesn't affect the named user licenses for Studio Runners or Developers.  The updated licensing terms can be found here in the Connect product documentation and will be similarly posted within the Connect website and in LMS in Foundation.  There can be advantages of using RPA bots with Studio for a holistic RPA for SAP solution and you should contact your Sales Account representative for more details regarding your specific RPA with Winshuttle for SAP needs.
