One step to enhance the security of your EngageOne Compose installation

One thing was more frequent in 2018 than anything else in the world of Information Technology. It’s the number of data breaches. The world has seen over 600 data breaches in 2018 that compromised 4.5 billion records.

I am sure information security is the highest priority in every organization and yours too.

Generally, all organizations rely on their vendors to provide them guidance to secure their products. At Pitney Bowes, we do get a lot of questions about the security of our products. I had the privilege to work on a few of them.

Now:

The challenge with many client requests is, they are too generic. I don’t have a direct answer for most of them, because specific details will change my response. However, every request aims to achieve the same outcome: “Secure the EngageOne Compose installation." There is a security feature in EngageOne Compose that will help you discover the flexibility it offers to secure the installation from your side; TLS 1.2 support for configurable ciphers.

As an EngageOne admin, you don’t have to know the internals of this feature. You need to know the basics to have a productive discussion with your security team.

In EngageOne Compose 4.4 SP7, Pitney Bowes introduced several security enhancements that transfer the flexibility and ownership of security into your hands. We gave you the power to control the safety of the product.

Here’s a list of benefits of the TLS 1.2 configurable ciphers feature.

  1. Your security team gets to choose the ciphers that EngageOne Compose must use. I believe this will reduce a lot of operational costs.
  2. You don’t need Pitney Bowes help to include new ciphers in the installation. You are free to use any support cipher with your EngageOne Compose security certificates.
  3. You will get a lot of time back as you are no longer a facilitator of meetings between Pitney Bowes engineering teams and your security team.

That not all here’s the best part:

You can always reset the configuration to the default settings. This step will not impact any other product features.

Now that you understood the value of this feature, why don't you give it a try?

You will find all the required information in EngageOne Compose Installation Guide “Securing Network Traffic with TLS” chapter.

I am sure you will find the topic very interesting. If you run into any issues or unclear about the next steps, you can always reach out to our friendly support team. You can open a support issue from our support portal. We are happy to assist you.
