I am presently encountering a problem with Norton who think this new version is the devil and does not trust it. They say there is only 50 users in their community and so its use cannot be assured. Do new releases go though a process of firewall approvals?  Can you do anything from MapInfo side, while I try to solve the user settings?

    Hi Roy

We run various security checks on our products during the development phase.

I can't tell if we also do firewall or antivirus tests for specific products. I doubt that.

Does the error show up during installation or when you run the software?

    Hi Peter,

I created a first 'elevation' 3D test successfully, but when I tried the Globe, it didn't work and I started to get Norton messages to the effect that MapInfo.exe was creating suspicious action which it blocked but said no further action was required.  I managed to 'trust' the product and it worked.  It then started objecting to saving workspaces and opening them, really odd.  The message from Norton was it was a recent product and less that 50 users in their community so I guess that's the criteria for acceptance.  Anyhow I have got it back working for now with Norton being of little help.  Just wondered how this all comes about, but expecting further interference!

    Thanks for your attention.

    Roy

    Hi Roy

I have never seen errors like these before or heard about them.

It's new to me that Norton keeps track of the number of users of a certain product.

Hopefully, it will start seeing MapInfo Pro as safe as people start using the new version.

Keep us posted if you keep getting "bugged" by Norton

On startup, MapInfo Pro connects to a website and fetches an XML file that builds the welcome screen with MapInfo News and Getting Started articles.

It also checks for potential news to show in a notification.

If you have enabled participation in Customer Experience Program MapInfo Pro will also send some usage data to our server.

You can check some of these settings via the Pro tabOptions, Application Preference, and the Pro tab, Options, Notifications.
