Maybe you already found a way.
If not, here we go:
- Create a new column to hold the name of the completed sample points in your planned sample points table
- Create buffers around your completed sample points table. Create the buffer at a size that will cover the planned sample points. You can consider creating a copy of your table before creating the buffers, or doing it as you create the buffer.
- Now use Update Column to get the name from the buffer table into the new column in the planned sample points table.
When done, you can delete the buffer table if you created a copy.

Subject: Update Column from another Table by Spatial Proximity
Is it possible to update (or add a column for) the name of a point based on its proximity to a point in a different table. I have planned soil sample points with one name (L4930E_1150N) and the completed sample points with a different name (340538) and slightly different coordinates.
I want to have a column for each name/point ID in the same table. The samples are close enough to each other that there wouldn't be any overlap with other samples with a 5 to 10 meter search proximity.
Thank you,
Leah
