    I don't get it.

I have been sent data from Ordinance Survey which comes as a bunch of gml.gz files for whatever reason. The documentation says to import it into MapInfo using Universal Translator, but I don't have the format they specify. So I click on "Add Format" and it takes me to a seizure-inducing website where everything is just vague nonsense.

How do I add formats so that my full licenced copy of MapInfo can read gml/gz?

I have run the translator using OCG Gml format but after two hours of translating and yielding a "Successful" result, it didn't produce any files. Anywhere. Not sure what it was doing for 2 hours, then.

    Hi Ryan

For this process you will need to unzip the gz files (using 7-zip). This usually results in files that do not include the extension .gml - so you will need to add that.

Then you area ready to >Import.   Not the Universal Translator!!

This is an option on the >Open dialogue.

The default is .mif. Change to OS MasterMap (*.gml). Select your files and it should produce a set of files for each file/chunk of gml data. This will use the standard OS Schema for MasterMap.   Note: You will get duplicate objects at the edges of each chunk of data.

Or you could purchase a professional translator like MapGML https://www.cdrgroup.co.uk/sales_3rdparty_gml.htm

Yeah, I used UT because that was the instructions in the support documentation for OS MasterMap.

I did actually try the method you describe above but I get nothing the unizipped GMLs but got the error message:

"Unable to access <gml filepath> file".

So frustrating to be paying a provider who sends us data in a format we can't use without requiring third party software, and even more frustrating that MapInfo claims to support GML when it doesn't and insists you need to pay a significant fee to a third party to access useful formats.

    Hi Ryan

When you have unzipped the gz file, have you ensured that the files have the extension *.gml ??
