    Hello Automate Community!

For this week's tip, we're taking a look at the Automate Migration Utility - a powerful tool that helps customers modernize with confidence. As organizations move to new Automate versions, adopt Studio Manager or Evolve, or transition to new SAP systems, the Migration Utility streamlines the entire process by securely migrating existing scripts with minimal effort and risk. It protects prior automation investments while accelerating modernization, giving teams a faster, cleaner path to centralized governance and continued value from their SAP automation.

The Migration Utility allows you to move scripts, solutions, and data between environments with ease, preserving integrity and managing compatibility behind the scenes-so upgrades and transitions become smoother, safer, and far less time‑consuming.

Customer‑Friendly Steps: Using the Automate Migration Utility

The Automate Migration Utility helps you move your existing Automate scripts from older environments into Automate Studio Manager or Automate Evolve in a simple, guided way.

Step 1: Download the Migration Utility

    • Log in to the Precisely Data Experience (PDX) portal (https://data.precisely.com/home)

    • Navigate to your Automate downloads and download the Automate Migration Utility package.
    • Download the Automate Migration Utility from your available Automate downloads.

    • After downloading the Migration Utility, unblock the file in Windows and run it as an administrator to avoid permission issues.

Step 2: Connect to your current Automate environment

    • Double click on Automate.MigrationManager

    • Click Continue.

    • This is the Automation Migration Manager home screen.

      • F = Foundation
      • E = Evolve or Studio Manager
      • Notepad = Logs
      • ? = Help
    • The center of the screen displays a large folder/search icon with a message prompting the user to navigate to a folder after signing in.
    •        Sign in to the correct environments: Make sure you connect to both your source and destination Automate environments with the appropriate admin accounts.

    • Select the appropriate App from the source and then begin to browse the libraries or folders that contain the scripts you want to migrate.

    Step 6: Review the results

    • When the migration completes, you'll see a summary showing what was migrated successfully, as well as errors and warnings.

    • The migrated scripts will be available immediately for testing and validation.

    Step 7: Validate and test

    • Run a quick test of each migrated script to confirm everything works as expected in the new environment before using it broadly.

    Key Migration Tips for Customers

    • Prepare your files before starting: After downloading the Migration Utility, unblock the file in Windows and run it as an administrator to avoid permission issues.
    • Sign in to the correct environments: Make sure you connect to both your source and destination Automate environments with the appropriate admin accounts.
    • Migrate in manageable batches: If you have a large number of scripts, migrate them in logical groups (by team, process, or library) to simplify testing.
    • Review migration results carefully: The summary will flag scripts with warnings or errors - review these before moving forward.
    • Validate migrated scripts: Always run a quick test of each migrated script in the new environment to ensure SAP connections, mappings, and logic behave as expected.
    • Confirm roles and access: Ensure your users have the right roles and permissions in the destination environment, especially after upgrades or SAP client copies.
    • Keep your systems aligned: Match Automate Function Module (AFM) and Studio versions between systems to avoid inconsistencies.

Finally, as a reminder, Automate Evolve and Studio Manager 20.x will reach End of Life on April 9, 2026, meaning support will be discontinued and customers will no longer be able to add or modify licenses until they upgrade to a supported version. Now is the ideal time to plan your move to Automate 24.x or higher to ensure uninterrupted support, access to new features, and continued stability across your SAP automation landscape.
