  • 1.  Opening some workspaces crashes Mapinfo

    Hi,
    I'm using MapInfo Pro 2021,1 Release Build 25 with Discover v2021 Release 21.2.32. I've recently found that some of my workspaces are crashing MapInfo without any error messages. It doesn't seem to matter whether I open them from the Start screen ir within MapInfo. Also, doens;t seem to matter if they're on my hard drive (C:) or on a company server.

    I found an thread in the community where someone with v17 had similar problems and there was a link that supposedly solved it, but the link appears to be obsolete.

    Any help/suggestions welcomed.

    Do you have a link to that thread you found?

    You can also try to copy the link and replace "pitneybowes" with "precisely". Sometimes that fixes the link.

    Hi Peter,

    Try this Mapinfo 17.0.2 Discover Crash when opening Workspace or Image File | MapInfo Pro (precisely.com)

     

    The link that supposedly solved the issue is an encom link http://encomkb.encom.com.au/questions.php?questionid=863

     

    Thinking about it, that might mean it's a Discover (now owned by Datamine)  issue. I'll see what I can find on their support site.

    Ah, then it's discover/dataminesoftware instead of encom :-)

    Hi Paul

    Note this is most likely a Mapinfo Pro issue crashing on opening Excel/Access linked files, and has been the single biggest support issue since Mapinfo Pro v15.0 64bit.

    The MapInfo Discover bundle includes a simple tool to run the necessary repairs -

    Hi Joshua,

    Thanks for your reply. I've only just got back into the office and tried the Fix Access Database tool. First run it advised that the Access 2016 driver wasn't installed, so I downloaded the driver using the links in the Precisely link you sent me, went through the steps 4 – 6 in and reran the fix tool. This time it recognised the Access driver and tried to fix it, but again no loading the workspace crashed MapInfo.

     

    I then used the Workspace Advance tool in Discover to step through the workspace loading and found that it crashed when loading a table that pointed to a large (~500mb) ECW file. I think I've seen some reference to an issue with loading ECW files, but not sure where to find it. Do you have any suggestions?
