MapInfo Monday: Copy a Layer to Another Map

MapInfo Pro allows you to work with multiple windows.

From time to time, you may have to copy a layer from one map to another. You can simply add the table to the other map, then modify all layer settings to match those on the first map.

But there is an easier way.

    Drag a Layer between Maps

MapInfo Pro allows you to drag maps into other applications or into MapInfo Pro itself to clone the map. I'll get back to that in a later article.

A simpler use of this is to drag a layer from one map into another map in the Layer List.

This will also include all the layer settings from the first map.

Here's how to do it in 3 easy steps.

    1. Select the layer you want to copy to another map.

    2. Now press and hold the left mouse button while you drag the layer into the other map to the position in the Layer List where you want it.

    3. Finally, release the mouse button, and MapInfo Pro will add the layer to the map and copy its settings.

That's it. The layer has now been copied into the other map.
You can also do this with multiple layers. Select the layers that you want to copy, and drag them all into the other map in the Layer List.
The maps don't have to be positioned side by side. I just did that so you can see that the layer has been copied along with its settings.
Are you already using this method?
    Happy #MapInfoMonday!
