Starting with release 10.0.11, several new options are available directly from object-related data group screens, making it much faster to investigate issues without having to manually type commands.
From WRKDGFE, WRKDGIFSTE, and WRKDGOBJTE, you can now use the following options:
- 91 - Display File Description (DSPFD)
- 92 - Display Object Authority (DSPOBJAUT)
- 93 - Work with Object Locks (WRKOBJLCK)
- 94 - Display Physical File Member (DSPPFM)
- 95 - Display Database Relations (DSPDBR)
- 99 - Run Command
Why This Helps
Before this enhancement, I often found myself copying the library and object name from a MIMIX display, pasting it into a command, and then running the analysis manually. It worked, but it added extra steps every time I wanted to look at file attributes, authorities, locks, or related database information.
With these new options, the results for the selected object on the system you're currently signed into are displayed immediately. That makes it much quicker to investigate replication issues, object state questions, or general troubleshooting tasks.
Option 99 Is Especially Handy
Option 99 deserves a special mention. If you need to run a command such as WRKOBJ or another object-focused IBM i command, you can enter it directly instead of backing out to a command line and reconstructing the object reference yourself.
It's a small change, but when you're working through multiple objects during an audit or troubleshooting session, the time savings add up quickly.
