I have a client who uses dropbox as a way of sharing data for 4 users who all work from home permanently. Not 100% sure but dropbox appears to hold the data at a local level and then manage/syncs the data updates as users make changes/add files/etc.
So we created a data hub on one dropbox folder - base maps, census data, downloaded 3rd part data sets, etc. these only change once or twice a year and no one edits/changes these.
We then created projects folders and users only make changes in these that then dropbox 'syncs' with the other 3 copies. Sometimes they copy whole datasets from the datahub folder This seems to work quite well although there is sometimes a delay between one user saving data and another user seeing that edit. They communicate enough that no one edits anyone else's layers, etc. Also they do duplicate a lot of datasets this way that if they were on an office based server then they wouldn't.
I wouldn't recommend this option if there were lots of users who access and edit the same datasets constantly. Obviously with flat files on a server only one user can edit at a time but I've no idea what dropbox would do if it had to sync data sets that had been independently edited?!?

Good morning to the community! I have a client that is wishing to 'hold' all his data with workspace on Dropbox. Has anyone ever done this before? Thanks for your comments, in advance. Giselle
