CODE-1 Plus – COBOL Modernization Update
Dear Precisely Customer,
As part of our ongoing modernization initiative, we are upgrading our COBOL programs from COBOL 4.2 to COBOL 6.1. This change will be included in the upcoming CODE-1 Plus Maintenance Release 7 (C1P050000F08) and applies to all MVS and IMS customers.
Key Points
- All modules will now be compiled with the COBOL 6.1 compiler.
- Delivered load libraries are now in PDSE format (no longer PDS).
- Starting with Release 7, COBOL 4.2-based load libraries and associated packages will no longer be provided
Customer Action Required
To ensure a smooth transition and optimal performance, please take the following actions before installing CODE-1 Plus Maintenance Release 7:
- Verify z/OS and IBM LE Compatibility. Ensure your system is running a z/OS version and IBM Language Environment (LE) runtime libraries that support COBOL 6.1.
- Update STEPLIB References. All JCL STEPLIB references must be updated to point to the new CODE-1 Plus PDSE load libraries. Any existing references to PDS libraries must be removed or updated accordingly.
- Validate Custom Integrations. If your system includes custom calls to CODE-1 Plus components, verify that all linkage conventions are compatible with the COBOL 6.1 LE runtime.
- Perform Regression Testing. We recommend conducting a complete regression test cycle to validate all integrations.
