Assure Security 7.0.29.00–Service Pack Notification

Precisely announces the release of Assure Security enhancements, designed to make your user experience more intuitive, strengthen your data security, and enable your product adaptability. To implement these improvements, you will need to install Assure Security Service Pack 7.0.29.00. This release provides either a new installation or an upgrade from all previous release levels of Assure Security 7.0 and 6.0.
IBM i V7R3 Support Withdrawal and Upgrade Considerations
IBM has officially withdrawn support for the IBM i 7.3 operating system, as indicated on its Release life cycle page. In alignment with this change, Precisely's release will include a safeguard during the upgrade process. Specifically, if the system detects that it is running on IBM i 7.3, the upgrade will be paused to prevent potential compatibility issues.
Summary of Enhancements
OIDC Device Flow authentication
We're excited to introduce OIDC Device Flow authentication to Assure Security, expanding your options for secure access across devices with limited input capabilities. This enhancement enables authentication on platforms such as 5250 terminals, ODBC/JDBC connections, and batch jobs by allowing users to complete the authentication process on a secondary device-like a phone or computer.
Device Flow authentication leverages the OAuth2 Device Authorization Grant specification. Here's how it works: Users start authentication on a device with limited input, which generates a device code and user code. The user then completes authentication on a secondary device with full input capabilities, such as a web browser on a phone or computer. Upon successful authentication, access is granted back to the original device.
To configure OIDC Device Flow authentication, use the Configure MFA Device Flow Parameters (CFGQADEVF) command and specify the following:
- Authorize endpoint URL from your Identity Provider
- Token endpoint URL from your Identity Provider
- OAuth Client ID
- OAuth Scope values
- Polling duration for authentication attempts
- Certificate store file for SSL/TLS validation
- TLS cipher suite settings
Server Name Indication (SNI) settings for cloud-based Identity Providers
Please note: OIDC Device Flow authentication can only be configured via the Assure Security Web UI. For complete configuration details and step-by-step instructions, see the Assure Security Web UI guide.
This new feature is designed to make authentication easier and more secure, especially for users working on devices with limited input capabilities.
For additional details on implementing this feature and maximizing your security capabilities, please refer to the updated Assure Security documentation available in the Precisely Help Center.
