2026 Release of US Census Boundaries - Support Announcement
Abstract
We are introducing a new attribute – NAMELSAD - to the U.S. Census Boundaries product lineup for the March 2026 Release.
Overview of Features and Functionality
NAMELSAD will be inserted as an additional attribute - concatenating the name with the Legal/Statistical Area Description.
In the next release of US Census Boundaries LSAD name will be inserted as an additional attribute to provide an additional naming option for census boundaries where the Legal/Statistical Area Description as defined by the US Census Bureau applies. An example would be 'Acadia Parish' for the NAMELSAD value and 'Acadia' for the COUNTYNAME. This will allow for enhanced, search, matching, labelling and gives an additional option for displaying feature names which can be more informative to users.
Please note that not all census features have LSAD descriptions. This table indicates which features will have the new NAMELSAD attribute and which ones will not:

Availability
The NAMELSAD field addition detailed above will first appear in the March 2026 release. The change will be present in all available data formats and in both the boundary and inventory (centroid) files.
