To help residents visualize the effects of flooding I created this video animation for the suburb of Pacific Haven, QLD, Australia.

Displaying the mapping in this format clearly demonstrates the progression of flood waters to people who may not have previous experience in preparing for flood. It also shows how quickly flood waters can rise and cut off evacuation routes.

The video also includes a timeline that identifies each layer as the animation progresses. This enables residents to determine a reference point and can take note of certain levels that are significant for their specific property.

    Very nice, Jen.

Did you also create the timeline in MapInfo and just change the colour on it time progresses?

    Thanks @Peter Horsbøll Møller?! 😁

No, I didn't create the timeline in MapInfo. I exported the map as a JPG and added the timeline in Photoshop. (I was a graphic designer in a previous life) While I could've used MapInfo I find Photoshop much easier and quicker to use for this kind of thing. 😊

    Fair enough, Jen :-)

I like it even though it hasn't been made in MapInfo Pro.

Would be quite easy to do with MapCAD though. Draw one, and offset multiple times.

Your map actually reminds me of a similar visualisation done by the municipality of Kalundborg here in Denmark as part of a EU funded climate project BaltCICA.

This was done using MapInfo Discover 3D

Wow! Loved the 3D aspect of that one. Might be something I try and tackle in my spare time! Thanks for sharing! :)
