Took the time to look at activities that we like to do down here in Sydney in the summer. As a PB employee, I decided to use the PB modelled Consumer Spend Potential 2018 and Estimates & Projections 2018 datasets, combined with Suburb boundaries.
I generated a number of comparative thematic maps to look at patterns/trends across Sydney. Start point (top left map) was Median Household Income and end point (bottom right map) was percentage of Income spent of 4 specific "summer" related spend categories - Food, Drink, Recreation, Travel.
Fairly strong correlation of the 4 spend rankings to income but of interest was the fact that the proportion of income spent was almost the inverse of the median income. Shows that regardless of income, having fun and enjoying the holiday period is an important part of life in Sydney.
Hope you find this interesting.
