    I am a user of MapInfo Pro v16 64-bit

Two columns of two tables which have identical content should be perfectly joined. But in some examples this does not work...

As an example in the attached files I try to join tables dimoi3 and electoral4, using column Municipalities from table electoral4 and column Name from the column dimoi3 with "Update column" and presenting i.e. column eleccod in dimoi3.

If anyone can try it he/she will see many cells where not content is presented in the new column as if the content of the columns is different, but it isn't...

I would be so much extremely grateful if anybody could try it and give me a clue

You are right, 31 records (name vs municipalities) seem to not be the same

I am trying to understand this...

I copied and pasted the content from the table to the browser. It is not a simple issue...

Sorry I did the opposite, from the browser to the table

I hope it is understood that I don't ask a solution to a personal problem with MapInfo. I try to join cells with fully identical cells (copy-pasted content) and MI does not recognise them as identical. Isn't the content of the cells the only factor for comparing tables?

Some records in the electoral4B are truncated and cannot join because of that.:
    example:
"Αγίων Αναργύρων - Καματερού" in dimoi3 file cannot match "Αγίων Αναργύρων -" in electoral4 file

Some other records from the dimoi3 table do not appear in electoral4 table:
    example:
"Αθως"  in dimoi3 file does not exist in electoral4 file and cannot consequently bring back any value for ELCOD.

To check those, first do an SQL select - Group by of all the values in each table and check that you get the same number of unique values in each table.
You could then save those tables, reopen them and add a new field to one of the table in which you would place the value 1 when such a value has been found in the other table (via Table - Update Column). Any record bringing back a 0 value has  no exact match in the other table and the values should be corrected first to a unique standard before joining the tables.

    Hope that helps.
