    What is a USPS seed record? If I encounter one how do I avoid this type of record or get it resolved?

    A USPS seed record (also known as a false positive seed record) can be encountered using either Universal Addressing Module (UAM) or Enterprise Geocoding Module (EGM) with Delivery Point Validation (DPV) data provided by the USPS.

    Great insights Eloise and Jason. a DPV seed violation can sometimes happen if someone tries to walk the USPS street, house database to build their own address data set. This can also happen in GAM-GAV US in Spectrum, Finalist and Code1 Plus if DPV is used.

    To answer a related question not asked, Why does the USPS use seed records?

    The USPS has restrictions on its Delivery Point data and limits how that data is used and it does not allow the contents of the Delivery Point data to be included in mailing lists.  In theory, the only way to get a seed record is that the record was improperly shared and used outside of the context of address validation.
