Sometimes we tend to forget to highlight some of the small improvements in the new releases of MapInfo Pro.

During December, I'll create a  number of posts focusing on exactly this: the small improvements that we have made in MapInfo Pro v2019.

Infotip shows the SQL statement for Queries in Table List

As you continue to create queries through a session in MapInfo Pro, you get more and more queries opened. Sometimes it can be hard to identify the exact query, you are looking for. This is especially the case if you haven't named your query tables but you have just used the generic Selection. In this case, you end up with a lot of query tables named Query1, Query2, Query3 and so on.

When you hover your mouse over one of these queries in the Table List in MapInfo Pro v2019, you will now see the SQL statement that generated the query table.

If you hover the mouse over a query table that was created by selecting the records using the Selector or another Select tool, the tooltip will tell you which base table the records were selected from.

We hope that you find this small improvement useful.

    Hi Peter,

Yes this tooltip very helpful. To double the power of this one it can easily be combined with naming the query via the "Into" clause so that the query tables have common names (not just "QueryX") . e.g. instead of "Query3" in your example it could be "qry_Parcels_840". Small change but big benefit!

    Cheers, Ashley

    That's a good suggestion, Ashley.

Might be good to pull together a post on small tips on improving your SQL statements!

Also, the tooltip for Selection shows you what table the selection is based on.
