We are in the final stages of the release process and I wanted to share one or two of the new exciting features.

1: Thematic maps: When creating or modifying a named layer Spectrum Spatial now allows a thematic style to be defined for the layer. Individual or ranged themes can be defined. All of the standard options are available including a choice of colour palette. The labels used for the legend can also be specified.

2: Row-level security: Support has been added to facilitate row-level security. Two approaches are available.

Firstly, in MISQL two new functions have been provided MI_USER and MI_ROLES which return the currently logged in Spectrum user name and roles. These can be used in any MISQL statement to filter records in any table or view, so long as the data has a user or role column to lookup.

Secondly, the Named Connection definition has also been enhanced to provide entering of a database-specific pre and post SQL. The pre and post SQL is run when the connection is borrowed and released. This allows admins to utilize database-specific row-level security implementations by setting database session context.

3: MRR Style overrides: When creating or modifying layers for Multi-Resolution Raster (MRR), grid, and raster type formats, Spectrum Spatial now lets you override the layer styles. A style can be specified for a specific field and band, including brightness, contrast, hill shade, colour palettes, and various other options. For continuous raster tables, a custom colour table can also be specified. The settings can be previewed in an in-line map before being saved.

We will be holding a number of webinars in the coming weeks to demonstrate other features of the new merged release of Spectrum Spatial. Keep an eye on this page for further details.
