    Hello All,

Apologies in advance if this topic has been discussed before,

Has anyone encountered an error similar to the image below where Map symbols fail to render correctly

    MapInfo Symbols

Previews load correctly, but the symbols themselves display as miscellaneous characters, and do not display correctly within any map or layout window.

    Am I missing something simple?

    Thankyou for any advice received,

    Regards

    Des

Hi Des - Glad you noticed this. I could have sworn that it was a problem in V15 and resolved by a patch, and then worked in V17.0.1/2, though seems to have reappeared. I look forward to the advice/solution from PBS.

Do all the MapInfo Symbols, or at least all the True Type fonts, seem to fail rendering correctly? Or is is only a few of the fonts?

Hi @Des Martin - further to the question from @Peter Møller, can you check if the Fonts are visible via Windows (not through MapInfo Pro)? To do this (on Windows 10):
    1. Go to: Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Fonts
    2. Double click the font set (MapInfo Arrows)

Do the correct symbols display? If not this could indicate a problem with the registration of the font file in your operating system. You can register the individual font set manually by browsing to the file (we can provide you the name & location of the file) in Windows Explorer, opening and then clicking "Install". Alternatively, if you go to Control Panel\Apps & Features then scroll to MapInfo Pro, select "Modify" and then "Repair" this action may help to resolve the issue.

Please share an update to let us know the progress.

    Thanks, Ashley

    Hi Peter,

Only a select amount of the true type fonts fail to render (MapInfo Arrows, MapInfo Shields, MapInfo Real Estate)

The issue seems isolated to the Layout window. Symbols can be added to the map window with no rendering issues (as long as enable enhanced rendering is unchecked)

Thanks all for the advice, Ashley Crane placed me on the right track in investigating the correct install of MapInfo TTF's (C:\Windows\Fonts)

By deleting the MapInfo TTF in the directory, and performing a quick uninstall/reinstall of MI 17, The fonts/symbols are now displaying correctly in both the map window and layout window.

Not a conventional fix, but it does the job.

    Thanks all,

    Regards
