I am excited to introduce the next version of the Pitney Bowes Enterprise Location Intelligence Solution -  Spectrum Spatial TM 2019.1. In this release, we continue in our commitment to providing an instant, powerful and simple, Location Intelligence technology for everyone. With this release, the single product name Spectrum Spatial now encompasses both the client-side web mapping application, Spectrum Spatial Analyst and the server-side components, the Spectrum Spatial Module (which was previously known as the Spectrum ® Location Intelligence Module).

The enhancements aimed at simplifying the administration of Spectrum Spatial have continued in this release. The main focus has been on improved usability and efficiencyabout making it easy for you to manage and access the application, but at the same time, easing the challenges of making location intelligence more accessible throughout your business and decision making processes. The unified administration removed additional management screens and creating streamlined management, saving you time controlling and creating map projects within one end-to-end management admin process. All the Spectrum Spatial Analyst Admin Console has been removed and its functionality is now available in the Spectrum Spatial Manager application, under the project settings tab, providing a single management console for the whole of Spectrum Spatial

There is also a wider range of other improvements for end-users. The major new capabilities in this release are:

    • The print template designer has been re-written and now provides some significant usability improvements allowing you to zoom in and out of the template to see and edit details.
    • Parameterized views and queries: The admin defined queries that were previously created in the admin console are replaced by the new parametrized views available in Spectrum Spatial Manager. Parameterized views allow full SQL syntax to be used (e.g. to use OR conditions and to have table joins) significantly enhancing the capability that was available with Analyst previously. Parameterized views are implemented generically and can be used independently of Spectrum Spatial Analyst.
    • Routing and Geocoding configurations now support adding custom service options allowing each configuration to be customized.
    • Row-level security is now supported. There are two approaches available which allow the authenticated user name or their roles to be sent in queries (using MISQL) or when a database connection is created (allowing use of database-specific row-level security)
    • Spatial sub-admin: A new predefined role can be granted to users, which in conjunction with folder permissions allow the administration of parts of the Spectrum Spatial repository to be delegated to other users. Such users can manage and upload data and create projects in the folders they have permission on.
    • Thematic maps and raster styling: Admins and sub-admins, in Spectrum Spatial Manager can now create and apply range and individual value thematic styles to layers. Previously these had to be created either in MapInfo Professional before upload or by end-users of Spectrum Spatial Analyst. There is also the ability to apply raster styles MapInfo Raster (MRR) layers.
    • Find nearest stage: The Spectrum dataflow find nearest stage now supports finding nearest features using a routing network (distance or time based) in addition to straight line.

To ensure a smooth transition of the project configurations the Spectrum Spatial Analyst installation incorporates a migration script that, when upgrading, will move existing map projects and other configurations from Analyst into the Spectrum Spatial repository.

Organizations that have licensed Spectrum Spatial may download v2019.1 via our eStore. It is a pre-requisite to install (or upgrade) Spectrum Platform to 2019.1 first and then to install (or upgrade) Spectrum Spatial Analyst.

In the next few days, you will receive an email confirmation with details on how to access the latest download release.

    Hi Andy,

I've mentioned this before but it is absolutely vital it is still possible to create the workspace ion Mapinfo, save as workspace and upload as is to Spectrum. That is the ideal way of doing it as there is benefit of setting up and visualising it in Mapinfo first.

    Thanks,

    Stuart

    Hi Stuart,

We are still very much committed in maintaining connectivity with MapInfo Pro, user can still load data from within the client directly to Spectrum Spatial repository. However, we also have clients that use alternative desktop applications and have Spectrum Spatial as their Enterprise Location Intelligence solution.

    Thanks

Hi Stuart - to add to  what Andy has said  - we also  have made improvements to the MapInfo Uploader in the 2019.1 release as follows:-

Path for tables: When uploading a named map it is now possible to choose a separate repository folder in which to place the named tables. Previously named tables were always added to the same repository folder chosen for the map.

Layer Friendly Names: A new setting is available for the uploader which enables the long names of TAB files to be used as the friendly name for a layer during uploads. Previously users had to manually enter a layer friendly name in MapInfo professional, otherwise the short-truncated name was used. Note that friendly names can also be modified for layers in Spectrum Spatial Manager.

Volatile and read only flag: When uploading new tables, it is now possible to choose whether the table should be volatile or read only. Check boxes are provided in the table list to choose these options.

    Thanks for that.

    Layer friendly name function

I always give my tab files a friendly name, so this will be a useful improvement. It will overcome a problem that came into SSA around version 12 (?).

    Volatile

Again, a useful function to have at the point of uploading. It saves having to find it it Spatial Manager and amend the settings there.

    Thanks,

    Stuart

    Hi Andy,

Will the 2019 and 2020 versions do a better job with word wrapping for map group and layer name titles? See below example...

    Thanks,

    Stuart
