You might have wondered that when you open a table into a new map, what determines which area is shown? Is that the entire area that the table covers? Is it random?
Well, you can control this yourself. A table has what we call a Default View for a map. This consists of a center and a zoom, basically.
There are a few ways you can control this thru MapInfo Pro.
First make sure that the current map contains the layer in question and that you have position the map the way you want to table to appear when you open it into a new map. Then follow one of the instructions below.
1. Window Manager Tool
The Window Manager tool that comes with MapInfo Pro, allows you to set the Default View for a Layer.
When you have loaded the Window Manager tool, right click the tool in the Tools window and select Set Default View... from the Window Manager sub menu.
Now select the layer that you want to apply the current view to. Do note that the table must NOT be read-only.
2. WindowHelper
The WindowHelper tool that can be found in the MapInfo Marketplace in MapInfo Pro 17.0.3 or later and on the Community Download, adds this feature to the layer context menu of the Layer List.
All you need to do is to right click the layer and select Set Default View from the context menu.
3. MapBasic
And you can also decide to do this via the MapBasic window.
Set Map Layer Municipalities Default Zoom
where Municipalities here is the layer to apply the default zoom on.
