Spectrum 2019.1 - Loss of Project Home Useability after upgrade from 18.2

Rightly or wrongly we administer around 30 Map Projects at the moment across internal and publicly facing environments, no doubt this is only going to increase.

Being a local government, the maps all have a base level of data that is almost identical, with various departments and public maps having additional layers that can be turned on as required. This means that the Project Thumbnail is virtually identical in each case.

Previously we would just replace the project thumbnail image with a stock image relevant to the overall project e.g. gravestone for Cemetery Mapping, pic of a Water Treatment Plant for Water and Waste, etc.....

In 2019.1 though, the images aren't stored in the program directory and are written in to the project XML as base64, really blows out the size of the XML file from typically under 100kb to 600kb. Now you can still manually change the image thumbnail, convert it to base64 (Notepad++ will do), then paste it in the appropriate spot.
But it doesn't last, as soon you save the Map Project again, it is overwritten with the current map view.

Can we have an option built into the Project Settings to apply a custom project thumbnail?

    Hi William,

good point, I got your request to pass to our road map solution. You might add your idea in the ideas portal for Spectrum Spatial (SSA)
