  • 1.  Create groups of 20 neighbourhood points based on proximity

    Posted 06-17-2020 09:17
    Hello all,

I have a point dataset with around 300 records. I've been asked to create neighbourhood clusters with these points. Where each cluster has 20 records. The output would be that I have an extra column in the data called area 1, area 2, area 3 etc. Each would contain 20 records where the only criteria is that they are near to each other. So, there is a certain accepted level of arbitrariness here.

Yes, I could try and do this manually, looking at the points and assigning to groups of 20, but I want to avoid that and see if there is an automated way of doing it.

    Thanks,
    Stuart

    Hi Stuart,

I hope you are keeping well.

I am not sure if this will help but our latest version of RouteFinder will do this by straight line and road / path distances.

    Regards

    Martin

Thanks for that. Is Route Finder an add-on .mbx  tool shipped standard in MI?

    Hi Stuart,

It is a chargeable add-on but obviously does far more that just the allocation of districts. You can find out more from https://www.routeware.dk/routefinder6/routefinder.php

Southwark Council used to have a licence but that lapsed about 4 years again and that version would not have had the new functionality.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

    Regards

    Martin

    Hi Stuart

The latest version of MapInfo RouteFinder has an option for building clusters. This can be done using a straight distance or maybe even better using a distance along a road network.
