Very excited that the team introduced MapMarker Online today.  MapMarker Online is an easy-to-use web application that enables batch geocoding.  It is perfectly suited to our smaller clients and users of third-party analytical applications.  Check it out and spread the word.  We would love to hear your thoughts.

    Hello Clarence.

    Thanks for publicly sharing this.
Had a look at Mapmarker this morning.
Easy to use, and seems reasonably efficient.
It quickly turned around a trial file we uploaded, geocoding c. 2000 UK postcodes (my trial limit is 2,500 geocodes so we couldn't do a batch higher than that), then notifying me of completion by email.
We did notice that although we uploaded a file in British National Grid projection, the results were returned to us in WGS84.
Can a MapMarker Online user specify the projection to be used for the results file, please?

    Thank You.
    John Bradford.

    John,
I am guessing that when you say "we uploaded a file in British National Grid projection" that you sent the service a MapInfo .tab file as a text file or other non-spatial file would not have a projection. Would it make sense in this kind of case where rather than always asking the user for a projection, they would just get back a table in the same projection they sent it in?  Or at least to default it to that?
Clearly in the case of a text file one would might have to ask.
This, by the way, would emulate the desktop if one has already created a spatial .tab file because the act of writing the results forces a conversion to whatever the file was created in.

    Hello Eric.
Globally, for your product, I think if uploaded data has  a projection, then returning the results in the same projection makes sense.
For consistency, emulating the desktop geocoding is a good thing.
     Thank You.

    Hello,

I've added persistence of projection into the backlog for next release. The functionality is available in the API it just hadn't been hooked up on the back-end for the self-service release. Look to see it in the next release sometime around end of Q2, start of Q3.

Thanks for the feedback, and letme know if you have any further questions.

    Hi Clarence
Is this the same service that MapInfo users have access to for geocoding?

    Hi John,

At its core, yes.  MapInfo Pro users have access to geocoding (and routing) services that are delivered through our GeoCode and GeoZone APIs.  MapMarker Online is a cloud application that uses our Geocoding API and adds an easy-to-use interface that helps clients who need to quickly run batch geocoding jobs, often in use with third-party applications.
