    Hello everyone,

Is there an easy way to get the Metadata associated with different data layers? I am needing to send some files (addresses and roads) to a company, and they want the associated Metadata for the data. How to do I get that in MapInfo Pro?

    Thanks!

    Hi Rachel,

One way of doing it is through the Table Manager Tool. You can  choose the table and highlight the layer to get the metadata. This information can then be exported . Not sure if it is a good solution for bulk export.

If you have MapInfo Pro 17.0.1 or beyond you can download the Layer Information Tool from the marketplace. It gets added to the context menu of the Layer Control and Table List . You get to see the MetaData here as well, if it is available.  You can Print the  information which has the metadata as well.

'Table Properties tool' can also be downloaded from the Marketplace. It allows you to view the properties and metadata associated with the selected table.

Another way to get the metadata is to open the .tab file in a text editor. You can copy it from there.

Is there a way using the Universal Translator (or another tool) to translate the .tab files to .shp and have it include the .xml & .prj file with the Metadata?

    Hi Rachel,

I am not sure if this will work because the Shape file created in read - only. Since the table is not mappable, you should not be able to modify the structure.

Did you try the  MapBasic function "GetMetadata$() function" ? It manages a table's metadata. You can issue this statement from the MapBasic window.
