Yesterday I was watching the Sherlock Holmes based TV show "Elementary" and to my surprise the story line featured a manipulation of flood plain boundaries within the mapping system. The story line was presented as something that involved difficult mathematics and the episode was titled "The Geek Interpreter". On the one hand I am suspect that the inclusion of mapping technology and the idea of using spatial data for decision making processes actually shows a growing awareness of location intelligence among the general population. On the other hand its presentation as a subject that only "geeks" and "mathematicians" can understand seems to me to indicate that there is still work to be done in making these technologies more accessible.

@Rose Winterton?  I agree, it does feel like this is marginalizing these skills - we need a more mainstream title!

Do you have any alternative suggestions? What about "The Map Whisperer"? Can we crowd source other ideas?
