When MapInfo Pro crashes, errors, fails to start, etc., here is some info that will assist in troubleshooting:
- Provide MI Pro version and build (Pro > About) , as well as the OS and Service Pack. You can search the Windows search bar for WINVER to get OS information.
- What version of Microsoft Office are you running and is it 32-bit or 64-bit?
- ?In any Office product, go to "File>Account>About" to find the specific version...
- Save a screenshot of any error's you see and when, as this can be extremely valuable to Support....?There could be error codes to aid in diagnosis.
- ?Try to detail what is happening when the error occurs - at startup, when opening a table or workspace? (and is the error thrown with ANY table or workspace? - if so, Support would want the table or a packaged workspace for troubleshooting)
- ?When an error is thrown, try to capture the actual text of the error by hovering the mouse cursor over the error dialog, hitting CTRL-C (to copy) and then click on to a document or email and click CTRL-V to paste the text of the error. This is so the text of the error can be searched more easily by Support...
- ?Did Pro ever function correctly with this data or procedure?
- ?Is MapInfo Pro patched to the latest build? (Pro > About > Updates)
- ?Can your colleagues duplicate the issue with their installation of Pro and your files?
- ?If you log on to a co-workers PC, does the problem follow you to their machine?
- ?What if your IT Dept. logs on to your PC as a Local Machine Admin - is the error still thrown?
- ?If Pro is launched by right-clicking on the shortcut or exe and "run as Admin" is selected, is the error still thrown?
- ?If the error occurred before and was resolved for you, you could search your email for the solution previously used...
- ?If the issue is specific to a workspace or table, you can try using the included tool, "workspace packager" to package the workspace in question to an empty folder for Support to retrieve...
- ?For more on the Workspace Packager, see this:?The following link is no longer available. To access this information, copy the title found in the url into the search tool on the top nav bar, or try searching for key words in the post. https://li360.pitneybowes.com/s/article/ka180000000DAkcAAG
- ?Have you re-booted? Sometimes that's all that's needed to resolve certain errors.....
- ?Are you running any 3rd-party tools or apps? If so, try to disable them, and re-test Pro....
- You can set an Environment variable to create FULL DUMP files that can be sent to Support for in-depth troubleshooting: - see this article:?The following link is no longer available. To access this information, copy the title found in the url into the search tool on the top nav bar, or try searching for key words in the post. https://li360.pitneybowes.com/s/article/ka1800000004TtSAAU
- ?Have you searched Online Knowledgebase or the LI360 for the particular error? It's possible the solution is waiting for you there...
?The key to troubleshooting errors in the software is to try and eliminate possible causes of the error...
?Here in Support we try and systematically test to see if the issue is with a particular installation of Pro, a specific PC, a particular user, a particular file or workspace, etc. etc., eventually narrowing down the possibilities until we find the culprit...
?Best of luck with MapInfo Pro!
