  • 1.  Convert TAB to geoJSON

    Hello,

    I was looking for a way to convert my TAB file to a geoJSON file with Map Info Pro. 
    I am using the latest known version (v2019.3) .

    The included free version of the tool Universal Translator does not support such a conversion. 
    I was looking for a tool in the MapInfo Marketplace but could not find any tool that solves my problem.
    I know that there are other ways to convert the TAB file to a geoJSON file by using other software. 
    Maybe there are some python Add-Ins that can solve the problem. 

    Is there a way to convert a TAB file to a geoJSON file with Map Info Pro?

    Hi Andreas

    There certainly is a Python add-in that can help you out.
    From the Marketplace, install the add-in Python Quick Start.

    Once it has been download, installed and loaded, enter "geojson" in the search field

    Now click on the Run button for the ExportToGeoJsonGDAL.py sample.
    This will prompt you to select a table to export, and then ask you where to save the GeoJson file.

    This is still a sample but we are working on improving this support for the upcoming MapInfo Pro v2021 later this year.

    that is exactly what I have been looking for - thank you very much!
    I looked for such a tool in Python Quick Start but it seems that I have not looked hard enough. 

    I am looking forward for more such tools in the near feature.

    PS: MapInfo Pro v2021 has better support for GeoJSON and a range of other formats. We added a new table type called OGR that takes advantage of the OGR Drivers in GDAL. This gives us access to a wide range of new formats.

    Most of these formats can be opened directly into MapInfo Pro via the Open dialog, some can be edited, and you can import and export to and from these formats too.
