  • 1.  MapCAD Tools in MapInfo Pro 2019.3 Build 45

    I have a question concerning MapCAD tools when using MapInfo Pro 2019.3 with a Premium License.
    When I double-click to open MapCAD I get the full path name in the Status Bar but nothing else appears.


    Do I need an Advanced License to run MapCAD (I didn't using 32 bit MapInfo v15) or is it something I'm missing?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi David

    No, MapCAD is available to standard and advanced licenses of MapInfo Pro.

    The full path the in statusbar tells you that MapInfo Pro is loading this MapBasic application.

    If you look in the Running tab in the Tools window, has MapCAD been loaded?

    Note that MapCAD embeds itself in many places in the ribbon, mostly in the Spatial tab where you can find it in existing splitbuttons and also in splitbuttons that MapCAD itself adds. This behaviour is quite different from the classic 32-bit version of MapInfo Pro where MapCAD had a couple of dedicated toolbars.

    Here's an example from the Insert splitbutton on the Spatial tab where the tools in the red rectangles have been added by MapCAD

    Thank you very much.
    The MapCAD behaviour is indeed quite different!
    I could find no reference to this in the MapInfo Pro 2019 release notes or the manual; it must have been described in a previous 64 bit release.

    This is a third party tool that you can choose whether or not to load. There is a decent Help file to go with it - hit the blue Question Mark button (next to the i - info button).

    With the previous versions of MapCAD you used to be able to draw objects of specified lengths/angles etc, I cant see this option anymore, has Mapinfo's latest version of MapCAD lost this functionality?

    Do you mean the old 32-bit versions? MapCAD had a separate toolbar with that interface.
    Now all the extra functions are spread around the various functions on the Spatial ribbon (mostly).
    Look for Insert and the option of Traverse Line.

    Draw a line and you will get this.
    Adjust to suit.
