  • 1.  Unable to open tab files in MapInfo 11 Pro

    I'm havig trouble opening tab file in MapInfo 11 Pro. Tabes were made by a third party and everybody else can open them but i get error messege
    "File ___________.TAB not found. Unable to open table _________ " I'll attach a screenshot of the error, or link to picture of the error.
    Please help!

    Ok, so i fiuered out what is the problem. I cant oepn .TAB files if they are in folder with special letters like č,ć,š etc.
    And if TAB itself has those letters in file name. If i change ć to c, i can open it.
    Any ideas how to fix this?

    Sounds as if you have been using Unicode characters for your file names. As you have figured out yourself that doesn't work in the older versions of MapInfo Pro.

    When we switched to the 64 bit versions of MapInfo Pro we also introduced full support for Unicode. That means that the newer versions of MapInfo Pro will support these file names. If you want I can try it out with a few of your tables. Feel free to upload them here in the thread in a zip file or email them to me at peter.moller@pb.com.

    This table opens fine into MapInfo Pro 17.0 but it doesn't seem to have any special characters in the file names.
    Maybe the zip program "normalised" the characters?

    It opens for me too if it is in folder without special characters. But if i save it in a folder with č,ć or š character, it says unable to open tab. Its a mystery for me too. Now i just use letter c and it works fine.

    Ah, I thought the table names also were using these letters.

    Anyway, I renamed my folder to "Unicode Tables č,ć or š" and opened the table into MapInfo Pro 17.0.
    In the image below, you can see that the path of the table is shown as a info-tips on the table.
