Hi all,

I was wondering if there is a way to compare two tab files to know the difference between them (in terms of display/extents and numerically in the table). I am used to check differences with Notepad++ and the compare option but it is not that easy to use it for tab files.

Any application that can help me with this? I am given 2 files and I want to see the difference between them basically.

Hi Monica,

You can also try the 'WinMerge' tool and see if it helps. It compares the two tables and highlights the difference between both of them.

I checked Beyond Compare but it is not a free software although I could use it for 30days. ?WinMerge works perfectly and it seems for comparisons is more powerful than Noteplus++. I am not sure if you can use it for something else though.

I solved my problem comparing the .MIF files.

There is a great tool associated with the File List in 32-bit MapInfo v15.0 called Table Structure Manager . You can only access it from a right-click in the File List on any table. From here you can select one or more tables and it will compare structures and allow you to edit the file structures, add, copy and delete. For example, you may wish to ensure that common fields have the same number of characters or data type or even the same field name. It's a tool that came in from MapInfo Discover. Would love it to come over to 64-bit MapInfo
