  • 1.  How can I Draw an Outline on a Raster image in MapInfo Pro?

    In MapInfo Pro, you can use the "Autonode", "Snap" and "Trace" functions to trace over a Raster in the cosmetic Layer. Trace and Snap doesn’t work on Raster by itself. These features will only snap to existing vector data

    1. Once the Raster you wish to trace is open it will be helpful to have a Vector file such as the USA Tab from the Introductory Data open in the background to help guide the trace.
    2. In MapInfo Pro, Select the checkbox for editable in the Cosmetic Layer .
    3. Click on Spatial Tab > Symbol > Polyline
    4. Click on Spatial Tab > Style > Line Style and select the pattern and thickness of your choice.
    5. Now on your keyboard, Press "N" for "Autonode" Press "S" for Snap & "T" for Trace
    6. You can now hover and trace around your Raster Image using your Polyline Tool. Once you are finished tracing, double click to show the finished traced outline.

    Just that you cannot snap to or trace precisely with a raster image?. You have to do it all by eye.

    In the next version of MapInfo Pro Advanced (Raster - 17.0) there is a raster "Polygonisation" operation. This is designed to work on classified raster data in which case it will convert the raster into a set of polygons which trace the regions of matching class index in the raster. The polygons outline the merged raster cell boundaries. There is also an option that can operate on any kind of raster to generate polygons that represent the valid cells in the raster and the invalid cells. This can be used to generate a perfect polygonal outline of a raster.
