Improving the Label options in MapInfo Pro

In MapInfo labelling of map object through Layer Properties as shown in the below screen shot, is there function to make the label with a format of the following?

    - concatenated label of numerator and denominator with horizontal bar in between, both the numerator and denominator has distinct source column values.

    - concatenated label of numeric value and followed by another numeric value enclosed in parentheses. the preceding numeric value in varying color based on range of values.

I think there is no available function or expression to do it. Is there chance that functionality for this would be considered in the software development/improvement in the future. It will facilitate our map making because we deal with lots of records and increment updates happen 3 to 5 times a week.

Answering your last query, if you have a 32 bit MapInfo Professional as well, you can access the RotateLabels tool and register it for the MapInfo Pro 64 bit. The 32 bit MBX is located at C:\Program Files (x86)\MapInfo\Professional\Tools\RotateLabels.MBX.

As much as I understand, this tool can help you achieve the last bit you are talking about.

    Regards,

    Shweta

Hi Shweta, Please refer to attached file. We are using Mapinfo Discover Bundle 64 bit which has Rotate Label too. However better if this option is part of the layer properties to make it dynamic. Regards, Gab

    Hi Gabriel,

Thanks for your query but unfortunately this is not possible in our current version. We have had a few internal users as well, wanting to get this capability into the product. I will put this forward as an enhancement request.

    Regards,

    Shweta

You can try this with Overlaying 2 layers - 1 with the numerator in the specified color and the other with the denominator with the other color, if the number of records are less.

With the kind of records you are talking of, this process could get very cumbersome.

Hi Shweta, Thanks for your reply. Doing manually the rotation of label could be tedious more so dealing with overlaying 2 layers when we are doing cumulative update of records 3 to 4 times a week. It would be great to include the dynamic labelling in the enhancement or further improvement of Mapinfo to your Development team including the functionality for options of varying color depending on ranges of values. Look forward to considering our request for improvement. Regards, Gabriel Ogad

Hi Amita, Please forward our concern to Pitney Bowes Mapinfo technical support. We have trouble on labelling of map objects. The Mapinfo application v16.0 (64-bit) suddenly closes at times when do manual or semi-manual labelling or adjsustment of labels of map objects in layout window. We haven’t experienced this kind of problem in v15.0 or in lower version of Mapinfo. Please let us know on how to fix it. Regards, Gab
