I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to make an Overview window in a layout? There was tool for this in the old MapInfo, I cant seem to find it in the new version.

Right now Overview tool is not part of 64 bit version of MapInfo Pro. We are in discussions to add Overview tool in the next release of MapInfo Pro.

If you have 32 bit version installed, then its Overview tool can be used in new 64 bit version by running 32 bit version "overview.mbx" located @ "installation directory\Tools\overview.mbx" in new 64 bit version.

Once MBX is run in 64 bit version of MapInfo Pro, tool will be available in Home Tab > Tools Extensions > Running tab > Right click on the Overview tool to enable context menus of the tool. You can unloand tool's MBX anytime you want.

MapInfo Pro 17.0 comes with an updated version of the Overview tool.

I'm however not sure it will work dynamically after you have inserted the Overview map into your layout as you basically will clone the Overview map.

If you are looking for a way to insert the map extent of one map into another map, you can also have a look at the WindowHelper tool: http://communitydownloads.pbinsight.com/code-exchange/download/windowhelper-3.0-x64

It comes with a feature that allows you to insert the extent of your detailed map into an overview map. The extent inserted is static and you need to insert it again if you change the zoom or center of your detailed map window.
